Domestic Glasses for On and Off-Trade Toughened Drinking Glasses
Using a combination of visual examination under polarised light and scratch, fragmentation and centre punch impact testing the effectiveness of toughening of domestic glassware and trade glassware, such as toughened ovenware or toughened pint glasses, can be assessed regarding the safety of the glass in the event of accidental or intentional breakage.

Numerous standards exist for toughened or heat strengthened glass for architectural, domestic and construction applications. We are UKAS accredited to carry out fragmentation assessments of flat glass in accordance with the following standards:

Fragmentation Assessment for Toughened, or Tempered, Glass
The scope of our accreditation includes fragmentation assessments in accordance with Addendum 42: Regulation No. 43 for automotive glazing, and in accordance with BS 3193:2008, Specification for thermally toughened glass panels for use in domestic appliances , for toughened glass panels for domestic appliances.
In addition to laboratory based testing, we are also equipped to assess installed toughened glass on-site using a Scattered Light Polariscope (GlasStress SCALP-04), as well as carrying out assessments of roller-wave and other visual distortions.
